diabetes update

I haven’t blogged about controlling my diabetes for awhile.

Sometimes having diabetes can be a real pain in the butt.

But hey, it is what it is, right?

Either I can’t control my appetite and want to eat everything in sight, or the thought of eating again makes me want to hurl.

Lately, I’ve been hungry all the time.
So I’m going to share a few things that have helped me in the past few months:

  • Eating a small apple before, or after, a meal fills me up.
  • Raw vegetables (like the carrots, celery, and radishes (like the ones I cut up today, pictured above) also fill me up. Homemade garlic hummus gives my veggies a taste kick.
  • 30 minutes of exercise, every day, helps me lower my blood sugars.
But here’s the BIG TIP: Don’t drink diet soda. Holey moley. I just cannot believe what a difference this makes.
Wish I could tell you I’ve given up diet coke. Honestly, it’s my crack pipe. But I’ve cut down on my d.c. consumption a lot, and it’s made a big difference in my morning blood sugars.
It would be premature for me to report I’ve achieved mastery over this diagnosis, but I’ve gotten used to it, finally realized that it’s just another journey.
I refuse to behave like a victim!
And now I’m going to  add some fresh lemon and ice cubes to my ice water cocktail :).

  1. It's so difficult to say “no” to goodies..

I tell people all day at work to eat well, then I come home and eat biscuits etc..

Good on you for getting a grip on your diet!

    I must try harder!

  2. It's always a struggle, Lady Banana! Sorry I missed the comment until now!
